The steel sluice gate is an important component for controlling the water level in hydraulic structures such as hydropower stations, reservoirs, sluices, and ship locks. It has to be submerged under water for a long time, and frequently alternates between dry and wet during opening and closing, and is washed by high-speed water, especially water. The line part is affected by water, sunlight and aquatic organisms, and is also eroded by water waves, sand, ice and other floating objects. The steel is easily corroded, which obviously reduces the carrying capacity of the steel gate and seriously affects the safety of water conservancy projects. Some use paint for protection, which generally fails after 3 to 5 years of use, with low work efficiency and high maintenance costs. For example, a certain tide gate on the coast was severely corroded by seawater, which caused the entire gate body to lose stability and damage, which made it impossible to continue operation. Another example is the arc gate of Luliangxiang Dam in Yunnan Province after its operation in 1958. Paint was used for anti-corrosion. The anti-corrosion period became shorter and shorter after 5 years. After two years, the corrosion was severe, and some parts were replaced. The first phase of the Gezhouba Power Plant was put into operation in 1981. The metal structure was painted to prevent corrosion. After three years, the gates and trash racks of the first phase of the project were generally rusted.

Corrosion not only affects the safe operation of the structure, but also consumes a lot of manpower, material and financial resources to prevent corrosion. According to some sluice engineering statistics, the annual expenditure for the anti-corrosion of the gate accounts for about half of the annual maintenance cost. Mobilize a lot of labor to remove rust, paint or spray, etc. Therefore, in order to effectively control steel corrosion, prolong the service life of steel gates, and ensure the integrity and safety of water conservancy and hydropower projects, the issue of long-term corrosion protection of steel gates has attracted widespread attention.
